Hafizh unveils 2012 Malaysian MotoGP Moto2 Wildcard Bike
Following the announcement that PETRONAS RACELINE MALAYSIA rider Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah will be racing on a Moto2 wildcard ticket at the Malaysian round of the MotoGP, the 18-year old today unveiled his FTR-Moto2 bike to the Malaysian public for the first time. On hand to witness the event were the Chairman of the Automobile Association of Malaysia, Tunku Datuk Mudzaffar Tunku Mustapha and the Senior General Manager of Group Corporate Affairs Division, PETRONAS, Dato Mohammad Medan Abdullah.
Team PETRONAS RACELINE MALAYSIA’S FTR MOTO2 motorcycle is the same Moto2 machine that Hafizh Syahrin currently rides with for his campaign season at the 2012 CEV Buckler Spanish National Motorcycle Championship.
This is Hafizh’s second wildcard ride in the Moto2 category of the FIM Road Racing World Championship (MotoGP), after taking on the challenge in 2011. Last year, Hafizh finished the race in a commendable 20th place from the 38 riders.
Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah
"It is an honour to once again represent PETRONAS and team PETRONAS RACELINE Malaysia and ride the team’s FTR-MOTO2 bike at Sepang this weekend. I am grateful for the incredible support from the team and our partners as well as the encouragement from the racing community in Malaysia. It is definitely a boost to my confidence and motivation to improve on my performance from last year, which is my primary goal. I will do my best for Malaysia and for my sponsors and really hope that the Malaysian supporters will come down to support the Malaysian riders like Zulfahmi and myself at this weekend’s MotoGP race.
I feel comfortable with the FTR-MOTO2 bike that we use to race in the CEV Buckler championship and the fact that I am also working with the same team from my race season in Spain gives me the confidence to do my best. Although Sepang is considered my ‘home’ race, I also know that the other riders in Moto2 class are also very well prepared as they have been competing at that level the whole season. My aim therefore will be to learn as much as I can from them this weekend.”

"Based on his performance this year in the CEV, Hafizh has definitely taken yet another step forward and that experience I believe puts him in good stead for this weekend’s race. Our aim is to build on that foundation of solid competitive experience to further hone in on Hafizh’s skills. The aim remains to have Hafizh improve on his result from last year and target a top-15 finish at Sepang. He has already participated in two separate tests in the build-up to this weekend’s race and from there we can see that he is more comfortable with the bike and ready for a good race.”
