PETRONAS AAM MALAYSIAN CUB PRIX CHAMPIONSHIP
Season 2009
Championship Profile & Calendar
By the start of the 2009 season, the 18-year old domestic two-wheel championship had already established itself as the largest and highly popular motorcycle championship in the country.
Well on the way to cementing its status as the premier national sporting event, the popularity of the sport led to the expansion of the championship in 2006. From the original format of eight rounds, the championship was expanded to 10 rounds to extend the sport’s presence in more states in the country.
2009 also marks PETRONAS’ seventh year association as the title sponsor to the Malaysian Cub Prix. The involvement in Cub Prix racing in general has not only helped to fulfil a business objective for the national oil corporation, it has also become a powerful social development platform. It is the most accessible of all motorsports events in the country, which has helped to facilitate the discovery and development of young talented riders in the country.
The 2009 PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship will once again be contested over 10 rounds from the country’s northern-most state of Perlis to the southern state of Johor. Kicking off in March, the season will draw to a close in December.
