PETRONAS Sprinta FIM Asian Grand Prix 2007*
A new era and a new direction

PETRONAS' involvement in two-wheels racing traces its roots to the early 1990s, following the company's decision to leverage on the motorsports platform in the pursuit of both the business and sporting objective. The involvement and association between PETRONAS lubricant's research and development (R&D) and motorcycle racing have in that time evolved and grown.

In 2006, following in the lead of the evolution of the corporation's involvement in Formula One, the Asian motorcycle racing fraternity welcomed a new partnership between PETRONAS and leading motorcycle manufacturer Yamaha. The alignment with Yamaha led led to the expansion and evolution of the PETRONAS Sprinta racing team.

While still carrying on the legacy of Tong Veng Kit, the extension led to the rebirth of the existing team into the PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Malaysia racing team to spearhead the challenge in the Asian Road Racing Championship, also known as the Asian GP.
