PETRONAS FIM Asia Road Racing Championship
Rider Profile: Chalermpol Polamai

  • PETRONAS SPRINTA Yamaha Thailand – SuperSports 600cc Category, PETRONAS FIM Asia Road Racing Championship (#65)

The second half of PETRONAS SPRINTA Yamaha Thailand’s power-duo, Chalermpol Polamai also made his Asian debut at the FIM ARRC in 2007. Like his teammate, though confined to mostly domestic races Chalermpol’s racing exposure has also seen him enjoy his share of success. On that basis alone, Chalermpol’s move to the next level of competitive racing at the Asian level was expected.

Though it does not do justice to his talent, Chalermpol’s on-track performance in his debut season was almost always measured against that of his compatriot Decha Kraisart. But, rather than buckle to the pressure, Chalermpol instead took it in his stride.

Chalermpol’s cool contemplative demeanour, low-profile and no-nonsense nature allowed him to simply soak up the pressure yet deliver notable and consistent results. His first year saw him chalk up three podium finishes out of the six top-five results to eventually finish 5th Overall.

Despite a derailed start to the 2008 campaign due to mechanical gremlins and technical issues, the outlook for his sophomore year in the championship seemed much better. Though he would continue to be plagued by mechanical issues; two race wins out of his five podium finishes, Chalermpol’s results saw him wrap up the 2008 season again in 5th overall.

Chalermpol’s unshakeable drive and resolute will to succeed is always evident whenever he mounts his No. 65 Yamaha YZF-R6 machine. For someone who likes to keep to himself and stay out of the limelight; Chalermpol prefers to let his racing speak for itself often drawing off-track comparisons to Finnish Formula One driver, Kimi Räikkonën.
