PETRONAS SPRINTA YAMAHA Thailand Team - Profile

In accelerating PETRONAS’ regional brand presence and facilitate its downstream lubricants business activities in key Asian markets, the partnership with Yamaha in Malaysia was also mirrored at the regional stage. In 2007, PETRONAS announced the partnership with Yamaha Thailand and soon the extension of the PETRONAS SPRINTA racing team franchise beyond Malaysia.

The addition of the PETRONAS SPRINTA Yamaha Thailand Racing Team to the Asia Road Racing Championship grid in 2007 not only contributed to the addition of a fresh crop of Thai riders but also an interesting twist to the competition.

The Thai outfit are however no stranger to the world of competitive motorcycle racing. Boasting a dominant and impressive as well as a long list of achievements having participated in domestic Thai championships, the team’s exposure in the Asian racing scene in the 1990s was as notable.

Making their return to the Asian racing stage, the PETRONAS SPRINTA Yamaha Thailand racing team exploded onto the scene in 2007. Fielding the dynamic duo of Decha Kraisart and Chalermpol Polamai aboard the Yamaha YZF R6, the team celebrated their return in an emphatic fashion when Decha took home the 2007 FIM ARRC overall champion crown.

Since the team’s return, the Thai outfit has already positioned themselves as amongst the top contenders in the region’s premier motorcycle championship. Taking up the challenge for the 2009 season, the PETRONAS SPRINTA Yamaha Thailand racing team makes their return championship fielding the same rider line-up.
