Drawing to a close at the Sportsland Sugo circuit on the 27th of September, the 2009 All Japan Formula 3 Championship season proved to be a triumphant one for the PETRONAS Team TOM'S. After taking the team and tuner categories at the previous round, the team were also assured of the "triple" with two of the team's three drivers battling it out for the crown in the drivers' category.
The drivers' championship was a closely contested affair as the bout went down to the wire at the final race of the season finale round at Sugo with little to choose between the team's Swede driver Marcus Ericsson and Japanese Takuto Iguchi. With the Japanese failing to finish the final race, the bout eventually went in favour of the Swede who secured a podium finish at Round 16. Making three-for-three, the team's trio also made it a clean-sweep with Takuto Iguchi and Yuji Kunimoto taking second and third overall, respectively..

Points System:
※ For races 1 to 6, each driver is awarded points as per 10-7-5-3-2-1 point system. Points are also added for the team and engine tuner division.
※ In addition, the pole position driver and driver with the fastest lap of each race win will earn points which is only added to the drivers category.
※ 各レース1位から6位に入賞したドライバーにそれぞれ10-7-5-3-2-1のポイントが与えられる。チーム部門、エンジンチューナー部門は、最上位者のポイントのみ加算。
※ また、各レースのポールシッターとファステストラップ獲得ドライバーに、それぞれ1ポイントが加算されるが、ドライバー部門のみに加算し、その他の部門には加算しない。
