2010 Season Calendar

In addition to rule changes, the 2010 season will also see changes in the race calendar with the inclusion of a brand new Asian venue to the Formula One calendar and the return of a North American favourite. The 2010 season will also be one that begins and closes with rounds in the Middle-East.

Desert curtain raiser (Grand Prix of Bahrain, Rd 1; 12 – 14 March 2010)
Kicking off the 2010 season in the middle of March, the Grand Prix of Bahrain takes the traditional curtain raiser round from the Australian Grand Prix this year. The round at Albert Park will take place two weeks after that and a week before the PETRONAS Malaysian F1™ Grand Prix at Sepang.

Allô! Bienvenue au Montréal! (Canadian Grand Prix, Rd 8: 11 – 13 June 2010)
After a year-long sabbatical, the North American continent returns to the Formula One fold with the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal back on the bill. The return of the Grand Prix du Canada at the start of the season’s summer campaign also splits the European leg of the season into two parts.

Silver lining at Silverstone (British Grand Prix, Round 10, 9th – 11th July)
Despite reports that the British Grand Prix might move out of its traditional Northamptonshire home to Donington Park, these plans were eventually scrapped. Boosted by the recognition as being amongst the oldest continuously staged Formula One Grand Prix (the other is the Italian Grand Prix), the circuit was given a new lease of life when it signed a 17-year contract to keep the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Yokoso Suzuka (Japanese Grand Prix, Round 16, 8th – 10th October)
It was originally intended that the Japanese Grand Prix would alternate between Suzuka Circuit and Fuji Speedway owned by rivals Honda and Toyota, respectively. However, economic circumstances in 2009 prompted Toyota’s decision to discontinue the Grand Prix at Fuji Speedway. As a result, the Japanese Grand Prix will remain at the technically-demanding and driver faourite Suzuka Circuit in the Mie Prefecture in the Southern half of Japan’s Honshu Island.

환영! Hwan-Yeong (Welcome) to Korea!
Korea is definitely no stranger to hosting major sporting events, having hosted the Olympics in 1988 and the 2002 FIFA World Cup (jointly hosted with Japan). Scheduled to open its doors to the world in October, the Yeongam Circuit in Korea’s South Jeolla region, Korea is the latest Asian nation to host the Formula One race after the recent additions of Abu Dhabi, Singapore and China.

Desert showdown part 2 (Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi, Rd 19, 12th – 14th November)
Having hosted its inaugural Grand Prix in spectacular fashion in 2009, the 5.55 km long Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi will once again close out the 19-round 2010 championship season in November. Adopting a day to night race format, fans can expect yet another extravagant Middle-eastern affair.
