Season 2010
The Silver Challenger
The return of the Silver Arrows in the 2010 Formula One World Championship with the new MERCEDES GP PETRONAS Formula One Team marks a new chapter for the German auto-manufacturer as well as title partners, PETRONAS.
Mercedes' decision to take over the running of 2009 constructor champions Brawn GP in November 2009 marks the full return of the German marquee to Formula One since 1955, despite part-ownerships and engine supply deals in the 1990s and 2000s. A month later, the team inked a long-term agreement to partner Malaysian national oil and gas corporation, PETRONAS.
Maintaining the previous team’s base in Brackley in England’s Northamptonshire, it capitalises on Mercedes’ Formula One engine plant in Brixworth, less than 30 miles from Brackley. The new MERCEDES GP PETRONAS Formula One team’s operational functions will continue with Ross Brawn helming the team.

The Rise of the Young Knight and the Return of the King
Several weeks after the news that Mercedes was returning to Formula One, the first of the team’s drivers was announced with German Nico Rosberg filling up the first of two vacant seats. As questions surfaced and rumours gathered momentum as to who would partner the young knight, the MERCEDES GP PETRONAS Formula One team announced the other driver a month later.
In true epic fashion, the team confirmed the return of the King with 7-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher coming out of retirement days before Christmas.
To complete the team’s driver line-up, the team announced it had signed another German in early February, Nick Heidfeld to take on the responsibility of test and reserve driver.
