RACING SCHOOL SERIES
May 2006
PROGRAMME MODULES
Realising the hidden potential of promising young talents, PETRONAS as the Premium Partner to the BMW Sauber F1 Team has been given the unique opportunity to tap into BMW’s vast motorsports heritage and expertise through the PETRONAS Formula Xperience (PFX) Racing School Series.
Modelled after Formula BMW’s Education and Coaching Programme, the PFX Racing School Series has been specially designed to combine both theoretical and practical lessons on driving techniques, rules, race tactics and strategy. In addition, participants will also be exposed to other facets like fitness training, public and media relations for a well-rounded development.
Theoretical and Practical Focus
Under the tutelage of a panel of instructors from BMW and PETRONAS, the racing school series programme modules will have a practical focus on a variety of key thrusts

Driving and racing techniques
In detailed briefings, classroom seminars and practical sessions, candidates will be taught the necessary fundamentals of driving techniques, racing line, shifting and the right braking points. Candidates will also learn typical race situations, such as starts, passing manoeuvres, rules and flag signals.
Technical – Vehicle dynamics and chassis set-up
Under the guidance of professional instructors, candidates will be exposed to the technical components of their cars and equipped with the knowledge on the optimal vehicle set-up. Moreover, the communication skills between the driver and the engineer are also part of the programme curriculum.
Conditioning
Under the supervision of experienced trainers, candidates will undergo a thorough medical check-up to measure their individual fitness levels. Fitness training and dietary conditioning are also a component of the programme modules to help ensure the optimum level of fitness and stamina levels of each candidate.

Discipline
It takes more than just raw talent to become a professional racing driver. Candidates will be measured on their timeliness, organisation, cleanliness and their ability to oversee their own personal routines throughout the programme.
PR and Media Skills
An essential aspect of any good racing driver is the ability to sell oneself professionally as they become exposed to both the media and sponsors. Aspiring drivers learn how to deal with journalists and how to present themselves to both the electronic and print media.
Scoring methodology
Each candidate will be evaluated and awarded with points for their performance both on and off the track. Each aspect of the different module will be measured on a weighted points system to calculate the overall performance throughout the programme. Points will be awarded to each driver based on a points-scale system of 1 to 10 (10 being the maximum and 1 being the minimum points available).
