Team SAUBER PETRONAS concluded its three-day test at the 4.73km Circuito de Catalunya today (Thursday). Giancarlo Fisichella covered 66 laps in chassis C22-05 to set a best time of 1min 17.747.
Chief Race Engineer Jacky Eeckelaert said, “In the morning, the track was wet which enabled us to run a wet tyre programme for Bridgestone. We continued tyre testing in the afternoon and also used the new power steering which will be fitted to the 2004 car. Overall, the three days were very productive and we were able to complete our planned programme. Giancarlo proved to be a real professional and adapted very quickly to his new environment.”
Yesterday, Giancarlo Fisichella covered 83 laps setting the third best time of 1min 18.246.
Commenting on yesterday’s run, Eeckelaert said, “We concentrated on aerodynamic measurements in the morning in order to check the correlation of the data on the track with the one in the wind tunnel. In the afternoon we tested some new brake materials and finished the day with a tyre test programme for Bridgestone. Although this was only Giancarlo’s second day with team, it felt as if he has been around for a long time. It’s a real pleasure to work with him.”
