Twenty eight adventurers recently traded their comfortable corporate offices for a trip into the harsh rainforest of Malaysia.
Organised by the PETRONAS Adventure Team, the convoy visited Cenderawasih, Air Terjun Rimau Jemor and Berabong in Pahang.
Among the participants include En. Khaleed Abdul Aziz and En. Zulkarnain from PETRONAS Motorsports Division as well as 26 other PETRONAS staff from Kuala Lumpur, Terengganu, Malacca and Shah Alam. Amongst them were four ladies with two regulars (Connie and Sze Ann) and two newcomers. From PAT, Halim Rahman (Team Leader), Azman Baharuddin (Convoy Leader) and Faruk Rahman (Sweeper) also joined the trip.
Departed early Friday morning last Oct 10, the expedition routed through Kuala Klawang, Titi, Simpang Pertang and Serenti Baru before reaching the Serting R&R at around 4pm for some lunch. The team arrived at the Air Terjun Rimau Jemur campsite an hour later and proceeded to the Cenderawasih campsite, with the participants getting their first off-road experience some 40 km of jungle track into the campsite area.
After breakfast the next day, the group departed for the first sector of 8km off-road track. There were two river crossing (Sg. Kaca Merah and Sg. Kaca Putih), two small stream crossings, and many uphill and downhill sections. Before the first river, the team had to cut one big fallen tree and had to clear the sand banks and recover a few cars. Participants saw some rescue work being done and they also jumped in to assist. Arriving at an unusued road main road, the team broke for lunch before starting for the second sector.
The convoy reached an oil palm estate around 2.30pm that day and since the team had no major problems, they decided to proceed to Jeram at Taman Negeri Rompin. Participants thoroughly enjoyed the much-needed swim and enjoyed the cool weather. By 5pm, they departed to the designated hotel and arrived at Seri Malaysia around 6.30 pm. The participants were presented with certificates during dinner later that night.
