It's a furious fight to the wire for Team PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider Mohd Syahnas Shahidan as he prepares for battle with Noor Azizi Abdul Aziz in this weekend's final leg of the PETRONAS Sprinta AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship in Batu Kawan, Penang.
Currently in second overall with just 7 points behind, Syahnas will be banking on teammate Suhadi Ali Rahmat to finish second in this weekend's race as only a perfect 1-2 finish will secure the Novice class trophy for him while table leader Noor Azizi finishes at best in third.
Syahnas said, "I know we both have it in us to win another 1-2. We did it once in opening round in Seremban and I hope to able to repeat that same performance in this last round in Batu Kawan. It should be a perfect way to start and end this first season for the team. The crew have been rallying behind us all the way and I feel this should provide a strong basis for us going into Expert class next year."
Confident of getting the support he needs from his teammate, Syahnas added, "I know I can count on Suhadi to ward off Noor Azizi. We have been the perfect partner in Cub Prix and now is the time I need him the most. It's do or die for us this weekend as we won't have another chance to stake a name in the Novice class next year. It's win or bust this Sunday and second overall is just as good as loosing."
Syahnas finished 2nd in last year's Novice finals in Batu Kawan riding for Team PETRONAS Sprinta TVK, with teammate Suhadi finishing in fourth. This year, with a brand new team and a brand new crew, Syahnas has so far scored two victories in Kangar and Sepang and two second-place finishes in Seremban and Pasir Gudang.
Although the results seems to be favourable, a DNS in Taiping and his injury-related absence in Melaka handed his championship lead to Noor Azizi who so far, has failed to notch any wins in the Novice class. His string of two second place finishes, including three thirds and a seventh was somehow enough to lift him into the Novice lead.
Team Manager Saiful Amri Abdullah knows his riders would rise up to the occasion this weekend. "Both Syahnas and Suhadi has proven to deliver even under intense pressure throughout the season. Apart from the riders, we will also be looking for a perfect machine setup and a whole lot of 'racing luck'. With God's willing, everything should fall into its rightful place and hope we can achieve what we have set out earlier in the season."
