FPR’s Steve Thompson’s ties with Malaysia were significantly strengthened this week as he married Malaysian native, Aida.
“I met Aida last January in Malaysia when we tested at Sepang. We stayed at a resort just south of KL, where Aida was the resident singer and sang every evening in the Sunset lounge.
“We were all quite tired when we arrived at the resort having been testing at Phillip Island the week before, but music is my big love and so I obviously noticed Aida singing as soon as we checked in.
“I then bumped into her with her two girls, Atiqah and Aliya, the following morning in the lift of all places, and we chatted – I told her I thought she had a fabulous voice, which she does, and then saw her again that evening while we were in the bar and she was singing.
“And that’s it – it all went from there,” Steve concluded in his typically understated manner.
In order to have their marriage recognised in both England and Malaysia and provide for both Steve and Aida’s cultural beliefs, the pair celebrated their civil ceremony on Tuesday and their Muslim ceremony today, together with friends and family.
Steve continued, “We’re both delighted to now be married and we’ve enjoyed every minute of our week long celebration.”
And there must be something currently in the water at FPR as race team technician Mark Miles is getting married back home in New Zealand on 9 December and Marketing and Sponsorship Co-ordinator, Fiona Cole, ties the knot just a few days later on 14 December.
