Following the success of the Middle East’s inaugural Formula One race, the event’s organisers are planning to offer their spectators even more in the future.
The maiden Grand Prix at the ‘Bahrain International Circuit’, which took place last April 4th 2004, attracted some 42,000 spectators and the authorities hope to increase that by at least 20% next year.
“The new circuits and new events have led to an increased interest in motor racing, not only in Bahrain but in the entire Middle East,” said Martin Whitaker, General Manager of the Bahrain International Circuit. “In 2004, there was an increased demand for charter flights on race day. And we expect this demand to further increase in 2005.”
This year, Bahrain will be the venue of two further international motor racing events: in November, the circuit, designed by Hermann Tilke, will host a two-day GT festival, and in December it will be the venue of the Formula Three Superprix.
Furthermore, the management of the circuit is planning to continuously expand the facilities. Over the course of the next three years, Whitaker plans to upgrade the circuit with a museum, restaurants, hotels, a kart circuit, a drag strip and an off road facility.
