San Marino GP remains on the calendar

The future of the San Marino Grand Prix is safe, as organizers reveal that Formula One will continue at the 'Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari' until 2009.

During a meeting in London, Imola's mayor Massimo Marcignoli, circuit manager Federico Bendinelli and Formula One promoter Bernie Ecclestone agreed on a new deal, although there have been continued suggestions that the event might well be cancelled. Old-fashioned pit facilities and financial problems regarding the renovation process caused doubts over the future of the race, which has at Imola since 1981.

However, according to Italy's Minister of Transport, Piero Lunardi, these issues are a matter of the past. "After a feasibility study concerning the restructuring of the race track, the ministry proposes to partially cover the necessary costs of the modernisation," he announced.
