Although he is not yet 26 years old, Nick Heidfeld is already competing in his fourth Formula One season and his third with Team SAUBER PETRONAS. The German finished the 2001 World Championship an excellent eighth having scored a total of 12 points. In 2002, he came 10th, totalling at seven points.
"I feel very much at home with Sauber and I will do the best I can to achieve our goals", Heidfeld says. "In the forthcoming season, we are aiming to be at least as good as we were last year. In any case, the new car is very promising. Willy Rampf and his team seem to have united the proverbial reliability of the C21 and the latest technological progress."
Heidfeld is eagerly expecting the new Qualifying mode: "Only one timed lap – this means a lot of action! It’ll be very demanding on the driver’s concentration. The car has to be ideally tuned in the morning and then you have to find the right mix of cutting-edge and clean driving style. I am looking forward to that because I think it suits me.”
Heidfeld and his girlfriend Patricia have been living on the shores of Lake Zurich for a while. He moved away from Monte Carlo where he had taken up residence like many other Formula One drivers. He likes Switzerland and considers it an advantage to live near the Sauber headquarters in Hinwil.
