Race 2 Report: Second PFX school race event ends with Dominic on top
Weather: Dry. Sepang, 25 November 2007 – The second of two races in the second school race event in the 2007 season of the PETRONAS Formula Xperience (PFX) racing school on Sunday saw Dominic Ang Ding Xiong once again emerge as race winner after dominating the 10-lap race. The 18-year old led from start to finish, claiming his fourth school race win in a row with a time of 23:00.469m. Coming in to claim second and third positions were Arvin Roslan and Ammirol Ahmad Mahmood, respectively.
Taking place as the penultimate support race after the A1 Grand Prix feature race in the afternoon, the final school race of the weekend saw action across the midfield with several drivers engaged in a tough fight for position. Despite starting from the front row in second, a poor start saw Ammirol drop down the order. The 18-year old from Miri in Sarawak had to spend the bulk of the race trying to regain his position, eventually taking third place by the midway point of the race. Coming in fourth behind the trio was Muhammad Akid Azlim, who narrowly missed out on the podium to Ammirol.
Earlier in the day, the drivers were taken on a tour to visit the pit garages of three A1 teams – Team Mexico, sprint and feature race winner Neel Jani’s Team Switzerland and Team France. The drivers were also given a special briefing and even spent some time talking to A1 drivers, Neel Jani and Loic Duval of Team France.

Dominic Ang, PFX Driver, Car 1 (age: 18 years), Winner Race 2 - “I had a good start and managed to pull away from the rest of the field. I kept pushing to the end, although it was more difficult today, as our race was in the afternoon and the sun was in our eyes in some of the corners, making it very difficult for us to see properly! Also the grip level was much better after the A1 race, which was very different compared to our race yesterday. I am really happy that in addition to winning the race, I also got the fastest lap of the race! Overall, it has been a good weekend and we even got the chance to visit some of the A1 Teams, which was really great!”

Arvin Roslan, PFX Driver, Car 6 (Age: 18 years), 2nd Place - “I had a good start but in the first corner I made a mistake and locked the tyres, and someone overtook me. I had to try and push to get the position back and I managed to take second place back in the last corner of the first lap. After that, I was concentrating on trying to push and pull a gap from the rest. I am really happy with another second place finish and to be on the podium again. In general, I can be pleased with the race results, but I know there is still a lot for me to learn.”
Ammirol Ahmad Mahmood, PFX Driver, Car 7 (age: 18 years), 3rd Place - “The start was not so good for me as I fell back to fifth or sixth. But, in the first corner, I managed to gain a position and tried to make up as much ground and time with every lap. Eventually, on lap 5 I managed to overtake Akid in turn four for third position. I tried to maintain a consistent lap time from then on, and slowly began catching the guys in front of me. I had a good fight with Akid for the remainder of the race, and I am really delighted to finish third and on the podium!”
Dirk Müller, Guest PFX Instructor – “For me, it was my first time in Malaysia and here in Sepang. I was made to feel very welcomed in the PETRONAS Formula Xperience racing school. I really enjoyed working with the whole team and we were able to see two very good races here this weekend. Also the experience to race with the A1 Grand Prix was definitely a big thrill and motivation for everyone. I hope I can come back to the PFX racing school and see the boys in the near future and to see how they progress. I was very impressed with the very high standards at the PFX racing school and I have to admit that I am a little jealous that I did not get this kind of opportunity when I started my career!!”
