PETRONAS Formula Xperience Racing School
Season 2007
Sixth Training Session (Second School Race Event)
Sepang International Circuit (Full Track)
23 - 25 November 2007

Preview, Sepang / Kuala Lumpur, 22 November 2007 – Having successfully competed in their first school race event two weeks ago, the drivers in the 2007 season of the PETRONAS Formula Xperience (PFX) racing school are set to participate in their second school race event this weekend. The school race will be held as one of the support events to the Malaysian Super Series (MSS) at the upcoming Malaysian round of the A1 Grand Prix of Nations at the Sepang International Circuit from 23 to 25 November.

Featuring two races to held on Saturday and Sunday, the second school race event comes on the back of the drivers’ debut school race, held earlier this month, also at Sepang. The drivers enrolled in the 2007 season of PFX racing school will once again battle it out against each other in the Formula PETRONAS race cars, though this time contesting the races over the full race distance of Sepang’s 5.543km grand prix circuit for the first time.

The format of the races will see the starting grid for both races determined by the two fastest lap times recorded by each driver at the Friday’s qualifying session. The fastest qualifying lap by each driver will determine the starting positions for Race 1 on Saturday, while the second fastest lap time will make up the grid for Sunday’s Race 2.

In addition to the races, the drivers will still undergo normal training with classroom theoretical sessions and data analysis as well as fitness training with the school instructors. Joining the training force this weekend is the 2007 FIA GT2 champion Dirk Müller. A successful race car driver having won the prestigious Nürburgring 24-hours endurance race in 2004 and competed at the European and World Touring Car Championship level, the German will be on hand to impart his valuable experience to the young drivers as they prepare for their second school race event.

The school race events in the racing school curriculum are developed as one of the components in the driver’s training programme for the season. The races are designed as the platform for the drivers to put to test the knowledge and skills acquired from the past training sessions in a race situation. The driver’s progress is also measured during the race events as part of the season-long evaluation system. The evaluation will continue with further theoretical and practical training as well as fitness sessions scheduled in December.
