Fresh off his eleventh podium of the season at the recently concluded Grand Prix of Australia at Phillip Island last weekend, Fiat Yamaha Team’s Valentino Rossi today made a pit stop at the PETRONAS MotoGP Showcase in KLCC. (see also Grand Prix of Malaysia Preview)

Joined by his teammate and fellow title contender for the 2009 FIM Road Racing World Championship or MotoGP honours – Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo; the duo met and obliged fans in an autograph session organised by PETRONAS, as the Premium Partner to the Fiat Yamaha Team.

Also present at the showcase were the riders from the PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Teams, including the riders from the regional PETRONAS FIM Asia Road Racing Championship as well as the 2009 FIM Grand Prix of Malaysia wildcard rider Elly Idzlianizar Ilias.

Rossi and Lorenzo had earlier been presented with the winning artwork from a group of underprivileged students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Saujana Utama Sungai Buloh. The students were participants in an art contest together with the riders from the PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Teams as part of an outreach programme held earlier that day.

The week-long PETRONAS MotoGP Showcase at the Esplanade in KLCC has been designed as the centre of PETRONAS’ promotional activities leading up to the Malaysian round of the 2009 MotoGP championship. With Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo’s YAMAHA YZR-M1 race-bikes as the exhibition’s centrepiece, the showcase also includes a variety of other exhibits, including the display of road and replica bikes by Hong Leong Yamaha Malaysia. The PETRONAS MotoGP Showcase will end this Sunday, 25 October.

The Malaysian leg of the 2009 MotoGP championship will take place this weekend at the Sepang International Circuit.
