Motorsports in Education and the Community

Corporate Social Responsibility

At the heart of PETRONAS’ sporting and business pursuits is the desire to contribute back to society and the nation, an objective enshrined in its corporate mission. Consistent with its core values to enrich and inspire, PETRONAS places importance on creating value to the nation and the communities it operates in.

This is demonstrated in its emphasis on education and human capital development as the main thrust of its corporate social investment (CSI) programmes. While the involvement in motor sports allows PETRONAS to promote its brand and facilitate the promotion of R&D in the areas of fuel and lubricants, it also provides learning opportunities.

Talent Development

PETRONAS’ motor sports experience presented an opportunity to play a role in the talent development. The rapid transformation of the country’s motor sports landscape, increasing the awareness and popularity of the sport particularly amongst the young presented PETRONAS with the opportunity to formalise and institutionalise its driver development initiatives.

Designed to bridge karting and open-wheel single seater formula racing, PETRONAS created the PETRONAS Formula Xperience racing school in 2006. The programme is aimed at equipping young racing talents with the fundamentals of single-seater formula racing as they advance their racing careers.

The Motorsport Experience

In helping to provide the public with the opportunity to visualise and interact with the world of F1, PETRONAS also presents the Motor sports Experience to the public through a host of activities in the run-up to the PETRONAS Malaysian Grand Prix weekend.

Through dedicated community programmes that bridge the fast-paced world of motor sports and education, PETRONAS provides the avenue for the younger generation to experience the world of motor sports by exposing them to the motor sports personalities while inculcating an interest in science and technology.

Addressing the business and branding aims, PETRONAS’ motor sports involvement has helped to add a deeper dimension. For PETRONAS, this involvement is about adding value to the people and the nation, going beyond challenge and excitement.
